19th Century Spelter Metal of Siegfried
$1,250.00Price
This rare and unique late 18th Century spelter metal figure depicts the Northern Netherlands hero and dragon slayer, Siegfried or Sigurd. On a quest to retrieve treasure, Siegfried met the dragon, Fafnir, once a man. Siegfried lay a trap for Fafnir, leapt upon his back and struck his sword through the dragon's heart. As per tradition, Siegfried bathed and drank the dragon's blood, gaining great power and invulnerability. His invulnerability was imperfect, however, as Siegfried's enemy, Hagen found a weak spot in his back, thrusted his spear through that spot, and killed him.
